About

Keisenso sits on Kawazoko Onsen (川底温泉), a spring in Kokonoe, Oita said to have been discovered around 1,100 years ago when the court scholar Sugawara no Michizane (菅原道真) passed through on his way into exile. The original facility was destroyed by flood damage and rebuilt entirely before reopening in 2024, with a rotenburo and sauna added as part of the new build. Indoor baths and a private rental bath (kashikiri, 貸切り湯) round out the bathing options. The inn is also a stop on the Kyushu 88 Hot Springs pilgrimage (九州八十八湯巡り, Kyushu Hachijuhachi-yu Meguri).
