This ryokan sits at about 1,000 meters on the lower slopes of Mt. Kobocchi in the Gakenoyu hot-spring area, and the outdoor bath looks straight down over the Matsumoto basin to the Northern Alps. Indoor and outdoor baths draw on a naturally cool mineral spring kept mild rather than hot, so people tend to linger rather than rush through; both bathhouses added a sauna and cold bath in 2023. It belongs to the Nihon no Hitou wo Mamoru Kai (日本の秘湯を守る会), an association of secluded hot-spring inns, and guests describe an old, unpolished building with a quiet, folk-craft feel. The whole inn has been closed for renovation since early 2024, with no confirmed reopening date yet.
