About
Yanagawaya is a small ryokan in Onogawa Onsen, a hot-spring town on the edge of Yonezawa. It keeps three separate baths: a newer indoor bath in a kura-style (蔵) storehouse building, a smaller bath in the annex, Hotei-so (ほてい荘), and a rooftop open-air bath on the fifth floor looking out toward Mount Nishi-azuma, with stars at night and snow in winter. The water is a sulfur-bearing sodium-calcium chloride spring. The town itself is known for fireflies and an old legend tying it to the poet Ono no Komachi (小野小町).
