Yukaitei Miyajima is a seaside ryokan in Yunohama onsen town, Yamagata. The baths are split by floor. On the roof there is a large open-air bath looking over the Sea of Japan, with a hinoki (cypress) tub and a second tub made from a real fishing boat, so sunset soaks feel a bit like floating at sea. The second-floor baths face the horizon, and the basement baths have no view but are all about the water itself. Men and women each have one open-air and two indoor baths, and the rooftop one closes in winter and in bad weather. Every room has a unit bath with an onsen tap. The water is salty and warming. The inn stands on the site of the old onsen shrine, and the town's founding legend is about a wounded sea turtle that healed itself in the warm sand of the beach.
