Spring chemistry and what it does, with the research behind it.

ChlorideSodium-Calcium-Magnesium Chloride spring

A cold-mineral chloride spring (19.5 C at the wellhead, heated for bathing) led by sodium, calcium and magnesium. The 'iron-bearing' prefix on the certificate is earned — total iron 26 mg/kg, enough that the water emerges clear at the source and turns yellow-brown and slightly turbid by the time it reaches the lab. Neutral pH, moderately mineralized at 5.4 g/kg total solute, with a faint iron-rust note and a light salty-mineral taste on the lips.

Good for

Warming

Salt forms a film on the skin that slows heat loss, so the warmth lingers long after the bath (the classic heat-keeping water, nettō 熱の湯).

cold sensitivity

Cuts

Mineral-rich chloride, sulfate and sulfur waters have a long-recorded soothing effect on minor cuts and slow-healing skin.

minor wounds

Recovery

Warmth and buoyancy lower stress markers and improve sleep; habitual bathing is linked to lower rates of depression.
