Ban'ya no Yu sits on the Ishikari coast north of Sapporo in a building styled after the old herring fishermen's huts (banya, 番屋). The large indoor bath has a hot pool and several cooler ones plus a jet bath, there's a sauna, and an open-air bath outside. The spring water is drawn from deep beneath the sea floor and runs brownish and salty, leaving the skin smooth after a soak. Alongside day-use bathing, the inn has ten ocean-facing guest rooms upstairs, and a pet capybara lives in a courtyard visible through the glass.
