Shinkaisou is a small ryokan at Mikawa Onsen with two indoor hot-spring baths, both booked privately rather than shared, so it's just your own family or party in the water. The spring water runs on the cool side and feels soft on the skin, the kind you can soak in for a long while. Meals are home-style countryside cooking: river fish, mountain vegetables and mushrooms. Four of the ten tatami rooms welcome dogs to stay alongside their owners.
