Iwanai Kogen Hotel sits on a hillside above the Sea of Japan, with baths that look out toward the Shakotan Peninsula. The spring water is fully natural and kept flowing fresh rather than recirculated, soft on the skin. Alongside the indoor bath there is an open-air rotenburo, a hot sauna, a cold plunge drawn from groundwater, and two private baths you can reserve for a soak with family or a partner. It is an unpretentious hotel rather than a polished resort: simple rooms, a straightforward restaurant, sea views on one side of the building and views of Mount Iwanai on the other.
