湯之里公衆浴場
Unstaffed neighbourhood communal bath in Atsumi Onsen
Uses natural hot spring water
Towels to rent or borrow at the desk
Unstaffed bath: bring your own towel and soap.
One of the three communal baths (kyodo yokujo, 共同浴場) in Atsumi Onsen, and the one farthest out on the edge of the settlement. It is an unstaffed neighbourhood bath: you leave a contribution in the fee box in the changing room and bathe. The water is clear, without much smell, smooth on the skin and on the hot side, so some visitors cool it with a little tap water. There are no wash stations with stools or showers, only a few taps and basins, and you scoop water from the tub and rinse sitting on the floor. Towel and soap are not provided. The changing room and bath have an old Showa-era feel, and the regulars are mostly locals, so wipe yourself down well before stepping back into the changing room.
