Manganji Onsen Kawayu

A stone tub set directly into the riverbank of the Manganji River, with the water level barely higher than the river surface. When you're in it, the road runs just above your eyeline, with cars and pedestrians passing by, it's been called Japan's most exposed hot spring, and the description fits. The water is a clear, pleasantly warm alkaline simple spring. An unmanned changing room sits alongside. Not for the shy, but anyone who makes it in usually comes away grinning.
