湯殿山神社 御神湯
A footbath at the Yudonosan shrine in the Dewa Sanzan mountains
A footbath (ashiyu, 足湯) in the precinct of the Yudonosan shrine, part of Dewa Sanzan. Visitors walk the stone path barefoot up to the sacred site, and this is where they wash and warm their feet afterward. The space is roomy enough for a crowd, and the water runs fairly warm. Bring your own towel, since the only one you can get on the spot is sold there. Reviewers mention mosquitoes in late spring.
