Ootomoya Ryokan Hijiori Onsen

Ootomoya is a small ryokan on the narrow main street of Hijiori Onsen, in operation since the Edo period. Bathing is indoors: a larger and a smaller bath on the first floor, plus a private cypress bath that can be used on its own. There is no open-air bath, and the baths are modest in size, so people come here for the water and the quiet rather than for scenery. The spring water is approved for drinking, which is not something every inn can say. The feel is plain and warm, the kind of place that suits a few unhurried days in a mountain onsen town.
