Shotoen is a ryokan in Kaike Onsen built around traveling with a dog. Dogs stay in the room with you, and a reservable rooftop bath lets you bathe together with your dog, with Mount Daisen in view on clear days. The regular baths are separate: two large indoor baths that swap between men's and women's each morning and evening, plus a rooftop open-air bath open through the day with the sound and smell of the sea. The spring water is a salty type known locally as Shio-no-yu (塩の湯), felt smooth on the skin and warming. A couple of room types come with their own onsen bath looking out to the sea.
