Kakuto Onsen

Kakuto Onsen has two small indoor tubs, one lined with rock, kept flowing with a simple, mildly alkaline spring that runs clear and colorless. In summer the water isn't heated, so it settles into a long, comfortable lukewarm soak instead of a hot one, and reviewers describe it as smooth on the skin. It's a small, family-run inn set among rice fields on the edge of Ebino. The building is old but kept very clean inside, with tatami rooms and futon bedding. Dinner centers on koi raised in a pond on the property and cooked without the fishy taste people expect, as much a reason regulars come back as the bath itself.
