Gongenso is an inn at Maseguchi Onsen, at the foot of the mountains in Itoigawa. The baths are separate for men and women, each with an indoor bath, a rock-lined open-air bath (rotenburo, 露天風呂) and a mild, humid mist sauna. From the open-air bath you hear the river and look out at the mountain scenery. Day visitors (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) can bathe without staying, and the dining room, Hiuchi, serves lunch to day visitors too. Towels are sold, not lent, so bring your own if you can.
