飯坂温泉 旅館 詠帰亭
Old wooden ryokan in Iizaka Onsen with a cypress bath
A separate relaxation day plan (11:00-15:00) is also offered; bathing tax is extra.
Enclosed indoor bathing area
Eikitei is a small ryokan in Iizaka Onsen, Fukushima, with a cypress indoor bath where the hot spring water mixes with the smell of the wood. Day-use bathing (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) is available. The building is pure wood, rebuilt in the early Taisho era, on quiet grounds that began as a villa of the Horikiri family, long-standing local notables. The name was given by Matsudaira Sadanobu, who stayed there on a tour of the region and named the tea room Eikitei (詠帰亭). The original is gone, but the plaque he wrote is kept at the prefectural museum. It is an old-house inn with no front desk: staff greet you at the entrance. There are seven rooms, six Japanese-style and one Western-style.
