A small communal bath (kyodo yokujo, 共同浴場) in the Oyasukyo Onsen village, across the road from the tourist information centre. It is usually run without a full-time attendant: when nobody is at the desk you drop the fee in a box. Reviewers describe a newer, well-kept building with a fairly roomy tub and a wash area with showers and shampoo and body soap, which makes it an easy first communal bath. The water is clear and colourless with a faint egg smell, and the temperature is the thing to check: some visitors find it comfortable, others find it very hot. Towels are sold, not lent.
