762. Takamiya Hotel Hammond, Zao Onsen, Yamagata ★★ I visited for a day-use bath as a guest staying at a Takamiya Hotel Group property. Day-use bathing is listed from 07:00 to 10:00 and from 13:00 to 21:00. There is an indoor bath for men and an indoor bath for women. The outdoor bath is shared and switches between men and women by time. It used to be split into two small rotenburo, but now it has been combined into one. Women's hours are 13:00 to 20:00, men's hours are 20:30 to 23:00 and 06:00 to 10:00. 1. Bath area that switches between men and women. 1.1. Outdoor area. No view, behind a fence. 1.1.1. Outdoor bath. The water is acidic, cloudy, bluish-white. Temperature 43. 1.1.2. Two rest areas. 1.2. Indoor area. It is comfortable to breathe inside. 1.2.1. Infrared sauna. 1.2.2. Cold bath. 2. Men's indoor bath. The atmosphere inside is nice, in winter there are icicles outside the windows, everything is wood, very cozy. The water is acidic, cloudy, bluish-white. Temperature 43.5. It is comfortable to breathe inside. Great onsen, especially the indoor bath stood out. Recommended to visit during daylight hours in a time slot with full access, including the outdoor area. 10.01.2026

We stayed at this hotel in Zao and really loved their onsen baths. Two small rotenburo that switch between men and women throughout the day, and two indoor baths with panoramic windows overlooking the forest. One of the rotenburo has a sauna that you can adjust to your preference (sauna controls shown in the last photo). The water is quite hot and harsh — the composition is acidic, sulfur-containing, aluminum, sulfate, and chloride hot spring. Staying at this hotel gave us free access to onsen at 6 other hotels. We visited some of them, and I'll try to review those too.
