Nuruyu Ryokan began as a sento in 1909, and the brick bathhouse people use today dates from 1927. The bath is small, with a shallow tub and a deeper one, and the water is heated over a wood fire, which gives it a soft, rounded heat and a faint smell of smoke. Visitors say it is not onsen water and that it runs hotter than the name suggests. Showers and taps work well and there is a hairdryer, but no soap or shampoo, so bring your own. The inn attached to the bathhouse also does banquets and catered meals, and some guests stay for long periods. Reviewers like the food and the worn, old-fashioned feel of the building. The bathhouse sits behind the inn's signboard, in a quiet old part of town.
