Yawaragi no Yu is a long-stay inn in Miharu, Fukushima, set up for toji (湯治), the traditional stay-and-soak cure. The main bath is a large indoor one lined with granite, with a roomy washing area. The other draw is the indoor bedrock bath, ganbanyoku (岩磐浴), a warm room you lie in on a mat, so rain or snow makes no difference. There is also a drinking spring, and visitors fill bottles to take the water home. You can stay in a private room or a big shared room, eat in the dining hall, or come just for a soak. It feels more like a cure-stay place than a typical day-bath facility, and the staff walk first-timers through how things work.
