One staff member was a very unpleasant man who refused to give change from ¥1000, and aggressively shoved the rules at me, acting rather rude overall. Shiroganeyu was designed by Kuma Kengo, but there is nothing particularly special about the design, and the condition of the facility itself is very poor. There is an indoor bath on the first floor. The water is a little cloudy, with a slight greenish tint. The temperature is 44.5. It is easy to breathe inside, even though it was very steamy. About
Shirogane-yu (しろがね湯) is the public bathhouse of Ginzan Onsen (銀山温泉), the famous Taisho-era hot spring town in Yamagata. The building was designed by architect Kengo Kuma (隈研吾) in 2001 and fits quietly into the historic streetscape. Inside there are two small gender-separate baths on different floors, which swap each day so everyone gets a turn upstairs. The second-floor bath looks out over the river through a glass wall. Water flows in fresh and continuously (kakenagashi, かけ流し), and the spring leaves the skin noticeably smooth. The tub holds only a handful of people, so the atmosphere is genuinely intimate.
