About

Takenoya is a small, old wooden ryokan on the Norikura Kogen hillside, run by an elderly couple. The single bath is lined in wood and split into separate sides for men and women, filled with a cloudy, milky white sulfur water that reviewers describe taking on a pale blue tint when sunlight hits it. There's no outdoor bath, but on quiet weekdays the owners have been known to fill just one side and offer it as a private soak. It's a worn, old-fashioned inn where guests say they're treated like visiting family.
