Kanayama Hyute

Kanayama draws its baths from Norikura Kogen Onsen, water clouded milky white by sulfur. There's one indoor bath and one outdoor rotenburo, both separated by gender, and the spring is drinkable as well; a few visitors say the cloudy water rivals Sukayu Onsen up in Aomori. Rooms are simple and don't have their own bath or toilet, so everyone uses the two shared baths. It used to be called Kanayama Hyute (金山ヒュッテ) and later took its current name, Kanayama Ryokan (旅館金山). It's a quiet, old-fashioned stay, and the garden looks out toward Mt. Norikura, its snow still lingering as the greener months arrive.
