Daigo Onsen Recreation Center Mori-no-Ideyu

This town-run bathhouse in the forest above Daigo centers on a big rock-lined rotenburo, split into separate baths for men and women, with a view over the trees and hills that changes through the seasons. Indoors there is a large communal bath, a sauna with a cold plunge, and a jet bath. One of the outdoor baths has utaseyu (打たせ湯), a falling-water bath for working out shoulder and back tension. The water itself runs clear and doesn't have much of a smell, plain rather than dramatic. From October to early January the large indoor bath gets a seasonal apple bath, and in June, around new-tea season, a tea bath. Rest halls on both floors and a corner selling local Daigo produce round out a day here.
