About

Motoyu has drawn on its own hot spring since the ryokan first opened in 1916, and now has several ways to bathe in it. There's a large indoor bath, a garden rotenburo added in 2025, two indoor private baths (one lined in cypress, one in granite), and every one of the 26 guest rooms has its own onsen tub. Ureshino's water has a reputation for feeling silky on the skin, and guests here describe it as gentle rather than scalding. A short walk from the main building, the detached bathhouse Yukomori no Mori (湯こもりの杜), built in 2025, adds three standalone cottages, each with its own tub, a compact sauna and a cold plunge, with an optional steam session using local Ureshino tea leaves. It's the one part of Motoyu open to day-trip visitors; the main baths stay for overnight guests only, and day-trippers after a regular soak are pointed next door to Hyakunen no Yu (百年の湯).
