About

A mountain inn in Kitaakita with separate men's and women's baths, each with a small indoor tub, a large indoor tub and an open-air bath that looks out toward the Matagi hills. The water is natural and kakenagashi (flowed through fresh), and it keeps you warm after you get out. There is also one family bath (kashikiri-buro) that can be booked privately, and walk-in bathing (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) is open to non-guests. The inn has 18 rooms and a restaurant, Shikari, where bear hot pot and other game dishes come up in reviews. A Matagi museum, devoted to the traditional hunters of the region, is attached. It is an older building in a remote spot with no shops around, and it feels like a village inn rather than a resort.
