Tsuruya is a ryokan in Kaike Onsen, a seaside hot-spring town on the Sea of Japan coast in Yonago. Bathing centers on a large indoor bath lit by big windows and an adjoining open-air bath, both filled with salty spring water that leaves skin feeling soft rather than sticky. Two smaller private baths, Sarasa-no-yu (更紗の湯) and Nagomi-no-yu (和みの湯), can be reserved for parties of up to four, and day visitors can book them too, not just overnight guests. Many of the guest rooms, including the suites, look out toward Mount Daisen. Kaike Onsen's hot water was found bubbling up from the seabed by a local fisherman in 1900, and locals still call it shio-yu (塩湯), the salt bath, prized here for how gentle it is on the skin.
