Atami-so

Atami-so is a ryokan in Bandai-Atami onsen, in Koriyama, Fukushima. The open-air bath looks onto the river (五百川) and the trees beyond it, and there is also a high-ceilinged indoor bath. The water is clear, smooth and gentle on the skin. The indoor baths are lined with Aomori hiba wood, with granite tubs on the men's side and Towada stone on the women's, and the men's and women's baths are separate. Shampoo, conditioner and a range of skincare amenities are provided. Bandai-Atami is remembered for the legend of Princess Hagi, said to have been cured by the spring beside that river, which is why the area is called a place of beautiful skin. The ryokan has reopened after part of its renovation work, and some work is still going on.
