A small, ramshackle onsen hut on the shore of Kinko Bay in Tarumizu, Kagoshima, rebuilt a few times over the years and unmistakably handmade in feel. The single indoor bath fits about five people; the water runs unrecirculated (kakenagashi, 源泉掛け流し), arriving yellowish-brown and faintly sulfurous, with mineral deposits coating the tub walls. A cold groundwater bath sits alongside. Through the windows you can see the bay. Bring your own towel, soap, and shampoo. The name comes from the owner of TM Opera O (テイエムオペラオー), a famous racehorse, who built the place.
