Takaya Onsen is a small traditional inn tucked along a narrow road in Saito, Miyazaki. The bathhouse has an indoor bath and an outdoor rotenburo (open-air bath), and some guest rooms come with private baths. The water has a faintly slippery feel that reviewers tend to notice. The inn is quiet and rarely crowded, which makes it easy to settle in for a long soak. The restaurant serves local dishes, including koi no arai (鯉のあらい), a carp sashimi dish that is a regional specialty.
