Okudogo Ichiyu no Mori is a big hotel above the Ishite River, wrapped in forest and valley on both sides. The main open-air bath, Suimei no Yu (翠明の湯), is split into seven different tubs on each side, alongside an indoor bath and a sauna; the water is faintly sulfurous and known locally for leaving skin silky smooth. There are also five reservable private open-air baths, and a handful of riverside guest rooms come with their own open-air tub built right over the water. The building shows its age, but guests keep coming back for the scale of the baths, the seasonal buffets and kaiseki dinners, and staff who go out of their way for family celebrations and anniversaries.
