A gentle alkaline simple thermal spring, piped from Dogo Onsen's No. 2 distribution station in Yunomachi, Matsuyama. Mineralization is light and the water is easy on the body, but the alkalinity gives it the slippery feel that places it squarely in Japan's beauty-water family, helped along by a useful dose of metasilicic acid. The posted panel names autonomic nervous system instability, insomnia and depressed mood among the spring-type indications, alongside stress-related symptoms and fatigue recovery. It reaches the baths diluted when the source runs low, reheated, recirculated through a filter and chlorine-disinfected to meet Matsuyama's public-bath hygiene standard.

About

Hotel Katsuragi sits at the top of a slope just above Dogo Onsen Honkan, drawing on the same mild alkaline spring water that supplies the old town below. Two indoor baths, Shirasagi-no-yu and Daishi-no-yu, swap between the men's and women's sides each morning and evening. Shirasagi-no-yu (白鷺の湯, "White Heron Bath") is decorated with ukiyo-e style art and named for the local legend of an injured heron said to have discovered Dogo's spring. Daishi-no-yu (大師の湯) opens toward the Seto Inland Sea and greets bathers with a small statue of Kobo Daishi at the entrance. There's no mixed bathing and no private family bath, and the women's bath has a baby bed for parents traveling with small children. The building is older, and reviewers mention it, but the rooms and baths are kept clean and staff get consistent praise for being friendly. It's a straightforward base for walking down into Dogo's old bathing streets, a few minutes from Dogo Onsen Honkan itself.

734. Hotel Katsuragi, Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama I went for a higaeri for ¥1500. Higaeri is listed from 15:00 to 21:00. In the bath area there is a statue, and on the wall there is a relief of a woman. 1. Indoor area. It is comfortable to breathe inside. 1.1. Indoor bath. The water is clear, temperature 42. 1.2. Sauna. 2. Outdoor area. 2.1. Outdoor bath of the balcony type behind a fence. The water is clear, and it was bubbling a little. Temperature 42.5. 2.2. An empty barrel, there was no water. 06.01.2026
