739. Yamatoya Honten, Dogo Onsen, Matsuyama Stayed one night, no higaeri. There was a change of bath sets between men and women, but at the time of writing this review, the website does not mention it. A Showa-era ryokan, pleasant in places, with some shortcomings in others, for example the corridor on the guest-room floor looks rather sad. For food, I only had breakfast, a fairly average buffet. The staff were Japanese, and the level of service varied, from a wooden-faced guy at reception to a young employee with good English, and a woman in kimono. 1. First bath set by men/women. 1.1. Two indoor baths, separated by a bridge-like passage to the outdoor bath. The water is clear, temperature 41.5. Breathing inside is comfortable. 1.2. Small outdoor bath. No view. The water is clear, temperature 42. 2. Second bath set by men/women. 2.1. Indoor bath area. A bit stuffy. The bath photos online match. 2.1.1. Main bath. The water is clear, temperature 41.5. 2.1.2. Small bath. The water is clear, temperature 40. 2.2. Outdoor area. No view. 2.2.1. Small bath in a single rock. The water is clear, temperature 41. 2.2.2. Medium-sized bath in rock. The water is clear, temperature 41.5. Overall, the place is not bad, and it is inexpensive for the price. Another question is that in Dogo it is hard to find something really good with onsen for accommodation. 06.01.2026 07.01.2026
