885. Galleria Midobaru, Beppu (pt.1) ★★ A designer hotel. I stayed one night. No higaeri. There is no public onsen in the hotel, all rooms have private baths. In the photos and on the website, you can see a large rectangular infinity bath with a view of Beppu, but that is only exterior decoration. It is not included in Onsendo Beppu, they do not stamp the 88 onsen stamp rally. A group of artists was brought in for the decor, and they created special works for the hotel. Shinji Ohmaki was among them. At 16:30, guided tours for guests are held in Japanese, with explanations of these works. The design of the building itself is attractively brutal, with rough lines and lots of concrete. 30.03.2026 31.03.2026

885. Galleria Midobaru, Beppu (pt.2) ★★ The atmosphere in the building is unusual and very captivating. I very rarely crossed paths with other people, and most of the time I was alone. I spent a lot of time walking back and forth, looking at the different spaces and passageways in the hotel, and that was engaging and interesting. I constantly felt like I was in a location from some computer game with puzzle elements, with different objects everywhere, little figures, a mysterious atmosphere, and rugged-looking scenes. I got constant enjoyment from every minute spent moving around the building. My perception of the building changes a lot when it is raining, when the weather is clear, or in the evening. And in a sense, you can walk through the same places and enjoy simply being there in a new way. 30.03.2026 31.03.2026

885. Galleria Midobaru, Beppu (pt.3) ★★ I took a room on the 2nd floor (No. 220). I could have booked it for one person, but the price difference for dinner and breakfast for two was not that big, so I went with meals for two. From the room, you can order an extra breakfast or dinner, or massage, directly via QR. As I understand it, the staff were mostly Japanese. The service was all very smooth. Overall, the hotel had an atmosphere of minimal fuss and little interaction with other people, so it seems the staff outside reception and the restaurant tried to draw as little attention to themselves as possible and not distract guests, which I definitely liked as a plus. Dinner and breakfast are served in the restaurant in a separate building, with only a short walk from the main one. The menu was fixed, with different options, so the extra food was very welcome and I got to try two different sets: AAEA and BBDC. I liked dinner, it was tasty. Breakfast came with a choice of dish (I chose CD) plus a small buffet with fruit, salad, drinks, yogurts, and small snacks. The bath in the room. By default it is covered with lids. The water is clear. The temperature was 49.6 at first, and it can be adjusted with the taps. It is comfortable to breathe inside, and you can also open the side door to the balcony and air it out however you like. A wonderful hotel, I really enjoyed my stay. Even though the onsen part is integrated in a thoughtful and sensible way, the baths themselves still cannot quite reach top-level quality. That does not allow me to give this onsen facility the maximum overall rating, even though it made a very strong impression on me. I highly recommend this hotel for a stay. 30.03.2026 31.03.2026
