About

Ichinoyu is one of the seven soto-yu, the public bathhouses that make up Kinosaki Onsen's town-wide bathing circuit. Alongside a regular indoor bath, it has a rotenburo built into a rock cave, its signature feature among the seven. The spring water has a distinct salty taste, and there's a spot out front where you can drink it straight from the source. The bathhouse was originally known in the Edo period as Arayu (新湯), the "new spring." After the physician Kagawa Shutoku (香川修徳) praised it in his medical writings as the finest hot spring in the land, it was renamed Ichinoyu, "the number one bath," in honor of that verdict.

29. Ichinoyu, Kinosaki Onsen, Hyogo Onsen. Included in the hotel pass or in the pass for ¥1500. Towel, small one, ¥200, large towel rental ¥300 per day (you can return it at any onsen in Kinosaki). The water is clear, with a light smell. The indoor bath is hot, and there is a vibration zone. The outdoor bath is medium in temperature, quite cozy. A lot of people go there, since it is in a busy spot. It is generally considered a great onsen, but it did not really grab me. 30.12.2023
