Komatsuya

Komatsuya is a small ryokan in Iwamuro Onsen, in Niigata. It has an open-air bath looking out on a stand of cedars and an indoor bath that dates back to the early Showa era. Guests lock the door from inside and use the baths privately. The inn says all of its bathing water is kakenagashi (源泉掛け流し), kept flowing fresh from the Iwamuro spring, and one guest room, Kobai (紅梅), has its own bath of the same water. The inn is a registered cultural property, and the whole place is quiet and on a human scale.
