Echigo Heiya to Yahiko Renzan Ichibo no Yado Hoho

Hoho is a ryokan in Iwamuro Onsen (岩室温泉), a hot-spring town with a history going back more than 300 years. Bathing is split into a men's and a women's indoor hall, plus an open-air bath that looks onto a seasonal garden, with sulfur-scented water that leaves the skin smooth. Staying guests can also book one of two private baths filled with dark, source-fed water. A separate stone lying room called Arashi no Yu (嵐の湯), heated with onsen water poured over the stones until it steams, is open to day visitors on its own ticket. Some rooms and lounges look out over the garden toward Matsudake-yama (松岳山) and Tahou-zan (多宝山), the peaks known locally as Iwamuro Fuji.
