About
Boun is a ryokan in central Kusatsu, a short walk from the yubatake field, founded in 1598. Water from two of the town's hot-spring sources feeds six baths: three large indoor baths, each with its own open-air bath, and two of them have a sauna. The water runs fresh rather than being recirculated. Men's and women's sides swap between the baths at dawn, there's no mixed bathing and no private rental bath. Rooms in the newer main wing have their own indoor onsen bath, and some Unshoan rooms have a private open-air bath. It's a stay-only inn with no day bathing, and guests describe it as calm and well kept even when full.
