A small ryokan in the hills east of central Murayama, in Yamagata. The water is the reason people come: soft and slippery on the skin, with a faint sulfur smell, and the showers and taps run on the same spring water. Skin feels smooth for a while after. The men's bath is on the small side, so a few people fill it. The thatched main building dates from 1873, and guests mention the old wall clock and dinners of regional home cooking. Day-use bathing (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) is open to non-guests.
