Hana No Yu

Hana no Yu is a day-use kenko land (健康ランド, a bathhouse-and-leisure complex) built onto the Tokachi-Makubetsu onsen resort in Hokkaido, with its own entrance separate from the hotel next door. The onsen water is a mall-type spring, brownish and soft on the skin, with the fine plant fibers typical of the type still visible in it; locally it's known as bijin-no-yu (美人の湯), "beauty water." Baths run across a few different temperatures, from a mild soaking tub up to a hotter one, plus a jet bath, a single-person tsuboyu (壷湯), and an outdoor rotenburo that looks over the Tokachi plain. There's also a mist sauna, a dry sauna, a cold plunge, and a stone-floored ondol room for an extra fee. Outside the baths, the facility runs more like a health-land than a bathhouse: a manga lounge with more than 10,000 volumes, a kids' corner, table tennis, mahjong rooms, reservable family baths, and a restaurant, the kind of place locals settle into for a whole day rather than pass through.
