Tazawa Plateau Hotel is a highland stay near Lake Tazawa in Akita, with Japanese-style rooms in the hotel wing and separate cottages. The onsen water runs into a large indoor bath with big glass windows, so you soak looking out at the beech forest. Day-use bathing (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) is open to non-guests. There is also a cafe called Buna no Mori (ぶなの森) for lunch.
