Wakamiro Onsen is a simple thermal spring (hypotonic, neutral, low-temperature), led by sodium with a bicarbonate slant. The wellhead reads 27.7 C, so the water is reheated for bathing. At the source it is colorless and clear with a metallic note; left to stand it picks up a faint yellow tint. A generous 115.9 mg/kg of metasilicic acid leaves the kind of silica film that makes skin feel noticeably smoother afterwards.

About

Wakamiro is the only inn in this quiet spot at the foot of the southern Yatsugatake mountains, with an indoor bathing hall, gender-separated outdoor baths, and a private bath you can reserve. The spring runs cool, so each tub is split into a section left at that natural temperature and a section gently warmed, and bathers move back and forth between the two. The water is mineral-rich and kept flowing straight from the source rather than recirculated. On a clear day the outdoor bath looks out toward a distant Mt Fuji. The building is old-fashioned, built of Akita cedar with carved transoms that differ from room to room, and dinner leans on local, seasonal ingredients. Reviews describe warm, attentive staff and a nostalgic, well-kept feel, more like visiting family in the countryside than checking into a hotel.

589. 若神楼, Hokuto, Yamanashi Visited for higaeri at 1000 yen. Higaeri hours from 15:00 to 21:00. They stamp the Yamanashi 100 Onsen book. They issue Toreco cards for the onsen. Bath photos from the internet roughly match — the outdoor bath was partially blocked, and online photos don't capture it well. Visited in the daytime. 1. Indoor area. Breathing inside is good. 1.1. Large bath with clear water, temperature around 40-41°C. 1.2. Small stone bath with clear water, cold water. As I understood — probably kakenagashi. 2. Outside, a strange stone outdoor bath. View is behind a fence and on surrounding trees. The rotenburo is split by a small wooden partition — the water behind the partition is cold, and technical elements and pipes are visible. In the accessible part, clear water at 37-38°C. 15.05.2025
