About
Katakura Onsen Kubota is a hot-spring ryokan that has been open in Ube for more than a hundred years. The indoor bath is filled with plenty of hot onsen water and runs a touch hot, while the outdoor bath is smaller and noticeably cooler. There is also a small sauna, both indoor and outdoor, and a genuinely cold plunge bath alongside it. Day-use bathers are welcome alongside overnight guests, and visitors note that tattoos are not an issue here. The building keeps a distinct old-fashioned feel, plain but kept clean.
