  • Aches & jointsstiff shoulders
  • Smooth skindry, rough skin
  • Recoveryfatigue, stress

A simple thermal spring rising in the Tsurumi district of Beppu, and one of the hotter natural sources in the country. Despite that heat it is gentle in composition — neutral pH, hypotonic, and only 0.53 g/kg of dissolved solids, so the water reads as soft rather than assertive on the skin, with no colour, taste or smell to speak of. What sets it apart is metasilicic acid at 162.4 mg/kg: enough silica to leave the thin moisturising film that places this water squarely in Japan's beauty-water family.

About

A ryokan located about a 5-minute drive from Beppu Interchange with a large, atmospheric bath for relaxing. The open-air and indoor baths can be used as day-use onsens. The open-air baths, such as "Kurenai no Yu" where you can enjoy autumn leaves and "Tsurumi no Yu" overlooking Mount Tsurumi, are surrounded by trees and made with large rocks and stones. The hot spring is so spacious that you might hesitate if it is private. It is enveloped in silence away from the noise. When you immerse your body in the colorless and transparent water with a mild character, both mind and body are healed, and time seems to flow slowly. The courtyard leading to the open-air baths is also full of atmosphere. The indoor bath has a jacuzzi and is also spacious enough that it does not feel private, allowing you to bathe freely. Stretch your arms and legs fully and enjoy the hot spring. Since the ryokan is the main focus, the day-use bathing hours change depending on the accommodation situation.

719. Ryokan Yunooka ★★ We visited for a day trip. The ryokan has 5 private baths: 3 outdoor and 2 indoor. The price is 2500 yen per bath. Day trip hours are stated as 10:00 to 20:00, but there may be a shortened slot after 15:00. They stamp the Beppu Onsen passport. 1. The largest outdoor private bath is made of stone. No view. The water is clear, temperature about 43.5°C. There are two spots with very hot water flow, with a warning posted. 2. Small outdoor stone bath. No view. Water is clear. 3. Small outdoor stone bath with an umbrella. No view. Water is clear. 4. Private indoor bath with bubbles. Water is clear, temperature about 42.5°C. Comfortable to breathe inside. Very good private baths – recommended if you want them. 04.01.2026 31.03.2026
