A small old wooden inn in Sakata, Yamagata, that takes day visitors. The bath is compact, about big enough for two, and reviewers describe using it privately. The water is faintly cloudy and a little squeaky on the skin, and it warms you through. Shampoo and body soap are set out. The inn itself is the draw: creaky old floors and a Showa-era feel that visitors find nostalgic. There is plenty of parking.
