Matsuyama onsen kannon yu (Hot spring and ryokan)

A plain ryokan on a hill above the Shonai plain in Sakata, Yamagata, in Matsuyama onsen. The baths are indoors: one next to the changing room and a lower one down a flight of stairs, and both look out over the plain. The water is clear and mild, and shampoo and body soap are provided. Men's and women's baths are separate. The dining hall shares the view, with the Mogami river (最上川) and sunsets over the plain. The building is old and the rooms are simple, but visitors find it clean and easygoing. Day-use bathing (higaeri nyuyoku, 日帰り入浴) is open to non-guests.
