Kagura Village (Monzen Touji Mura - Spa Village)

Kagura Monzen Touji Mura is a small hot-spring hamlet built around a kagura theater in the hills of Akitakata, its guest lodges scattered like a village around one shared bathhouse. The bathhouse, a separate building called Iwatoya, has an outdoor rock bath, a large indoor bath, a steam sauna and a cold plunge; guests walk over from their rooms in geta sandals, since none of the rooms have their own bath. By local legend, the bathhouse's spring is linked to the Ama-no-Iwato myth, also told through the kagura performed here, and day-use bathing is open to anyone passing through.
