概要
紅葉館は、鎌倉時代から湯治の地として親しまれてきた「鹿沢温泉」に、今も唯一残る宿です。加水も加温もしない自家源泉を2本引いていて、湯船に使われる「雲井の湯」はやわらかな肌触りで、青みがかった濁り湯です。少し離れた「竜宮の湯」は打たせ湯として使われています。内湯は男女それぞれ1つのみで露天風呂はなく、シャワーもないので、お湯をかぶって体を流す昔ながらの湯治スタイルで入浴します。 創業は明治2年。かつては何軒もの宿が並んでいた鹿沢温泉ですが、火事でほとんどが焼失し、今では紅葉館だけが営業を続けています。2013年には木のぬくもりを生かした新館を増築しました。窓の外には森が広がり、聞こえてくるのは小川のせせらぎと鳥の声だけです。登山の歌「雪山讃歌」が生まれた宿としても知られていて、1926年に京都帝国大学の山岳部員たちが吹雪で宿に閉じ込められた際にこの歌を作ったと伝わっています。
