Hotel Ryutoen sits on a hillside above the Kase River in Kawakamikyo Onsen, an onsen area in Saga. The gender-separated baths pair an indoor bath with an open-air bath and a mist sauna, and the water is said to leave skin silky smooth. Day-use bathing is welcome, and women can also use a separate heated stone bath, ganbanyoku (岩盤浴). The hotel itself is large, with 78 rooms and banquet halls for groups, and the hot spring here has a history of more than 1,200 years. In summer a seasonal pool with a water slide runs by day and again after dark as a night pool.
