Choju Onsen is a small neighborhood bathhouse behind a park and ballpark in a residential corner of Tsuruoka. Two indoor tubs, one hot and one noticeably cooler, hold clear, faintly salty hot-spring water. It's a no-frills place: an open rest area, wash stations (bring your own shampoo and soap, or buy a set at the desk), and towels sold rather than rented. The building is old and plain, with the feel of a community hall, and it's mostly locals who come here.
